News

You may wish to note that the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons has now invited the Governor to give evidence in January. The Committee is under the impression that the Governor will visit London from 25 to 28 January and has hence asked him to give evidence during those days.

The Governor considers he should accept the invitation but, before replying, would wish to consult the Secretary of State via you on dates. His visit to London was originally planned to be linked with his attendance at the World Economic Forum Conference to be held in Davos, Switzerland, from 28-30 January 1994. He has however now decided that he will not be able to attend the conference and hence will be more flexible in paying a visit to London to give evidence to the FAC.

The Governor is aware that the FAC has invited the Secretary of State to give evidence in the morning of 25 January. He thinks that the Secretary of State would prefer him to give evidence before that date and asked me to seek your advice on whether this is indeed the wish of the Secretary of State.

I should be grateful for your advice as soon as possible to enable us to plan for the Governor's visit to London.

With best regards.
