1 Thank you for TUR. During its visit to China in April 1989, the Committee met the following in Peking:
Mr Han Nianlong, President Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs
Mr Liao Hansheng, Vice-Chairman Standing Committee NPC and Chairman FAC
Mr Li Hou, Dep Director, MFA HK and Macao Affairs Office
Mr Zhou Nan, Dep Foreign Minister and member of Basic Law Drafting Committee.
Calls were unsuccesfully sought on Shen Jueren (Mofert Vice- Minister), Ji Pengfei (Vice President) and Lu Ping who was absent in Hong Kong.
In London in September 1993, the Chairman David Howell met Mr Yang Taifang, Chairman, Overseas Chinese Committee of the NPC, accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador and other members of the Committee.

Most of the Committee's other recent visitors have been at the level of Chairman of FAC, Deputy Foreign Minister (eg Israel), or Ambassador. But in the last year in connection with other inquiries, the Committee has met the Presidents of Yugoslavia and Croatia, Prince (now King) Sihanouk of Cambodia, the Secretary General of the United Nations, and Chancellor Kohl of Germany. In the last session they also saw the Presidents of Zambia and Botswana, and further back the FAC met Mr Gorbachev when he was still at the top.
