Recast paragraph eight, to take account of the
breakthrough in the Middle East: "My government
welcome the recent breakthroughs in the Middle East
Peace Process. They will continue to support efforts
to bring a comprehensive and lasting peace to the
region."
In the next paragraph, on Hong Kong, you have edited
out the reference to cooperation with China. We would
like to see it reinstated
"Hong Kong and to
<<
cooperate with China to implement the.." The same
phrase was used last year, and its absence would be
noted by the Chinese, unhelpfully as the negotiations
with China reach a climax this autumn.
- The eleventh paragraph, on aid, now needs recasting
to take account of the merger of the aid budgets for
the developing world and Eastern Europe. It should now read "..aid programme to promote sustainable
development and good government."
