NEW DELHI, 12-17 APRIL 1993

2. The British Group played an active part throughout. Dr Clark and Mr Foulkes spoke in the debate on Arms Transparency; Mrs Peacock and Mr Bell on that on Good Government while Sir Peter Hordern and Mr Godsiff spoke in the general debate. Copies of their speeches are attached. While the Conference provided a useful opportunity to renew acquaintances - the British Group made contact with 80 of the 100 National Groups represented the series of bilateral meetings with the Iranians, Iraqis, Indonesians, Russians, Sudanese, Argentines, Irish and North Koreans underlined the importance of maintaining parliamentary exchanges. Copies of the records of the bilaterals are also attached.
3. The situation in the former Yugoslavia was a major focus of attention. The Conference passed a supplementary resolution, copy attached, which owed much to the input of Mr Harry Cohen who participated in the drafting committee. The Conference also decided to examine the feasibility of sending an IPU delegation to the former Yugoslavia under the leadership of the President, Sir Michael Marshall MP.
4. On Cyprus, Dr Clark chaired the IPU's Committee on Cyprus at which presentations were given by representatives from the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. The Committee decided
