PRIME MINISTER'S QUESTION TIME:

9 MARCH

HONG KONG

Line to Take

Talks with China about electoral arrangements in Hong Kong?

- We are ready for talks at any time with the Chinese Government.

But our position has not changed. We support the Governor's proposals on democracy in Hong Kong.

The Governor and the Executive Council are fully involved in the development of policy towards Hong Kong.

There is no question of the Governor or the Legislative Council being cut out of decisions about the way Hong Kong is governed.

- The Legislative Council have the responsibility to enact legislation on the arrangements for the 1994 and 1995 elections.
