HONG KONG: LETTER TO SECRETARY OF STATE FROM MR ROBERT ADLEY MP
1. The Minister has seen your submission of 26 March. He is content with the draft reply to Mr Robert Adley MP, with the exception of the final sentence which refers to a discussion between the Minister and Madame Zhang Youyun on Hong Kong. Madame Zhang was insistent that this private meeting should be kept secret: indeed, she telephoned Mr Goodlad over the weekend to emphasise that she would not wish Ambassador Ma to know about it. I have deleted this sentence of the draft.
