Dear Martin
PAPERS FOR CLEARANCE
Reph received

1. I wonder if I could ask you to try to clear with the Governor two papers which I need to put into the Secretary of State's weekend box:
2.
A brief for the Prime Minister who is seeing Allen Lee and delegation on 19 January. You will see that we have flagged up in this the Governor's points that the Prime Minister should not accompany Allen Lee to the door of No 10, and that the Secretary of State should speak to the press immediately after the call to get our version on the record.
An article by the Secretary of State for the Oriental Daily News. This is something which the Secretary of State agreed before Christmas to do in the New Year. They have now asked for it to appear in their 25th anniversary edition on 20 January. This is therefore a rather hurried draft. Grateful to know whether you think I have got all the necessary points in, as well as any thoughts on the
drafting. You might check wilt Torry Galsworthy too).
With apologies, I will need to get these up by about 1000 our time on 15 January. If you could let me have an answer by then, that would be very helpful.
You ever
PF Ricketts
