Dear Mr Chem

PARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONS

Your fax of 12 February on the handling of Parliamentary Questions refers. I have spoken to our Parliamentary Relations Unit who are content that the majority of the information contained in your attached memorandum still holds true. However, you may wish to note the following:

House of Lords: Oral Questions are answered by Baroness Chalker (Minister for Overseas Development) and as such, deadlines for answers are set by the Overseas Development Administration (ODA);

House of Commons: when the FCO's turn comes round to answer Oral Questions in the Commons, supplementaries are required for the first 25 questions and bullpoints for the following 15 questions;

- House of Commons: Prime Ministers Questions are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This means that the time devoted to Oral Questions is cut by approximately 10 minutes on these days.

I hope this is of some use.

your

ever
