It was agreed that Sir P Cradock would send a revised text to Sir J Coles who would then write to Sir R Butler (if possible by 20 August). The publishing deadline was September. Sir P Cradock thought he might be able to accept 75% of our proposed amendments, but the resulting text would still be critical. Sir J Coles commented that our view would be based on the extent to which the criticisms were damaging to HMG's negotiating position.
