1. You asked whether we had experienced any further problems over getting work back on time from Ms Barrett.

2.

Ms Barrett has only been dealing with one of my pieces of work recently:

3. On 2 June I sent a minute asking Miss Brooks for her comments on a letter from the Supreme Court seeking the Secretary of State's approval for the appointment of Mr Justice Mortimer as a Justice of Appeal. On 21 June I sent a further minute to Miss Brooks seeking her comments on the appointment of Mr Jerome Chan as a High Court Judge (his appointment would only be possible if we approved Justice Mortimer's appointment to the Court of Appeal so that there would be a vacancy in the High Court). Miss Brooks returned the latter minute to me on 5 July approving Mr Chan's appointment. I then telephoned her to ask her what had happened to Mr Mortimer's appointment. She told me that she had passed it on to Ms Barrett, whom I then telephoned and explained that we needed an answer quickly (to what is a simple matter) as one approval was dependent on the other.

4.

I chased this matter up with Ms Barrett again at the start of the following week and she promised to deal with it quickly. On 15 July we received a letter from Hong Kong asking us for a reply on the two appointments. Over the next two days, Mr Whitney and I telephoned Ms Barrett at regular intervals asking for a reply. She finally dealt with the subject at 5.00pm on 16 July.
