HONG KONG
Objectives

links in Hong Kong which will be able to continue after 1997.
1.
Points to make
-
Britain will continue to have major political and economic interests in Hong Kong after 1997.
- We will be setting up an important Consulate-General to maintain and promote these interests.
-
We continue to give the highest priority to maintaining Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. Despite the recent disagreement with the Chinese Government over the Governor's proposals for further constitutional development, we remain committed to good cooperation with China on the basis of the Sino-British Joint Declaration. We hope that a constructive dialogue with the Chinese Government can be resumed as
as possible.
