Resulting from the review, a number of changes existing provisions of the WCPS and WOPS as set out the following paragraphs are introduced with effect from 1 February 1993. Other changes to death gratuity and duty related injury and death benefits are Annex I.

(B)

Retitling of the WCPS

summarised

at

ΤΟ reflect more closely the future membership of the WCPS, the scheme is retitled as the Surviving Spouses' and Children's Pensions Scheme (SSCPS).

Voluntary Membership

(a)

with effect from 1 February 1993, membership of the SSCPS and WOPS becomes voluntary for all serving officers and new recruits

(i)

unmarried single

(ii)

serving members (including officers, divorced officers, widowers and widows) may elect to cease contributing to the schemes within six months from 1 February 1993 to 31 July 1993. Refund arrangements are summarised in Section (D);

married serving members may elect, within six months from 1 February 1993 to 31 July 1993 to cease contributing to the schemes.

On doing so, they will have their accrued benefits (referred

as 'paid-up' pension in the Notes

the Comparative Statement at Annex VI) their dependants will continue to enjoy a contingent dependant pension frozen at the level when they left the schemes. The preserved pension will attract pension increase;

(iii) officers who are appointed, re-appointed or transferred from other public service to Government service on terms other than agreement terms, or who are transferred from agreement terms to the permanent establishment on or after 1 February 1993 may elect, within six months after their appointment or transfer (or after marriage in the case of single officers), to join

the SSCPS.
