a transfer to a post 5. However, if such an officer accepts carrying a lower salary than the notional salary used to assess his compensation we think he should still be given some form of compensation. The compensation would be:
(a) calculated by multiplying the amount by which his notional salary exceeds the initial annual salary of his new post by the factor appropriate to his age as set out in the relevant table; or
(b) equal to the compensation which would have been payable
to him had he retired on the date of transfer.
The lesser amount would be taken.
6. In these circumstances the officer would be paid compensation calculated under 5(a) or (b) in the same way as for any other officer.
7. Paras 9, 10 ani ii of the Scheme needs to be locked at again. In our view the calculation and payment arrangements should, as far as possible, be brought into line with those in the earlier schemes and this includes the payment of interest on outstanding balances for those officers who retire voluntary. The application of UK RPI to instalments of compensation (including the CAP) payable after the appointed day for those officers who stay on is also something which we should look at again before the provisions of Scheme are finally agreed.
8. Calculation. The compensation would be calculated as a lump sum in accordance with the relevant tables but it would be subject

The compensation would be calculated by multiplying the officer's "notional HK salary" at the date taken for the calculation by the factor appropriate to his age and length of service at that date. The appropriate factor would be based on completed years of service and age on his last birthday before the date taken for the calculation. If it were to the officer's advantage the relevant tables should be interpreted on the bases of completed months of age and service. [NOTE: The latter would bo determined in the same way as
way as those factors under the HK Limited Compensation Scheme.]
10. The dates taken for the calculation would be:
(a) in the case of the initial instalment, the "appointed
day";
(b) in the case of subsequent instalments each anniversary
of the appointed day; and
(c) the date of retirement or death when the officer's
compensation will be finally fixed.
