UNITED NATIONS SANCTIONS
1. Thank you for your letter of 22 June about the press report in the SCMP.
2.
Kevin Orchard of United Nations Department has advised me that the position is as follows:
Serbia and Montegnegro
No further UN measures proposed;
Somalia
Currently there is just UN arms embargo which the UK implements under Export of Goods (Control) Order 1992 (EG (C)O);
South Africa
There is just a UN Arms Embargo, which the UK implements under the EG(C)0. No further tightening is anticipated;
Libya
Currently there is a UN arms and aviation embargo implemented in the UK and Dependent Territories by Orders in Council. There is a possibility of sanctions being stepped up later this year, but precisely what form they may take is not known at present.
