1. Having checked the speaking note submitted to Mr Goodlad I can confirm that the text sent in our telegram was correct. Well spotted. I am afraid that in one of the revisions of the text I omitted to remove the reference to 19 July as being the date when we would announce the withdrawal. I have discussed this with Mr Ricketts and we feel that to do anything about it now would just draw attention to the date. We will need to bear in mind that if we make it public on any other date we will need to inform the Chinese of this, although the MOD'S intention is still to make the announcement on 19 July.
