FUTURE OF THE HONG KONG GARRISON: PUBLIC PRESENTATION
1. I wrote on 18 June (not to all nor needed), setting out broad plans for informing the Chinese and public
announcements on our plans for the future of the Hong Kong Garrison.
2. The Chinese were informed, as planned on 28 June, and took note. We have received no further reaction. I now attach drafts of:
a. an inspired written PQ for answer on 19 July Annex A.
b. comprehensive Q&A material for use in London and in Hong Kong - Annex B.
c. telegrams to go to Kathmandu and Bandar Seri Begawan informing the Nepalese and Brunei governments of our plans, given their interest in the future of the Brigade of Gurkhas Annex C.
