The costs of relocation of the withdrawn battalion might be reduced if the basing net were cast a little wider to include, for example, RAF units which are planned for closure such as RAF Hereford and Swinderby. Nonetheless, the apparent operational benefit of these proposals will need to be weighed very carefully against foreseen difficulties in providing short-notice reinforcement and the political and financial impact of such a move.
