FUTURE COMMAND ARRANGEMENTS FOR BRITISH GURKHAS NEPAL (BGN)

The 1991 Review recommended that the future command arrangements

for BGN be reviewed. This review was completed in a HQBF paper12 in

December 1992. The paper concluded that only HQ UKLF could provide

the correct level of command and control as well as staff and service

support. From 1 April 1993, HQBG will assume budgetary responsibility

for BGN. From April 1995 HQ UKLF will therefore have a direct link to

BGN through HQBG on Gurkha policy and budgetary matters.

19. Command and control of BGN should be transferred to HQ UKLF on 1

April 1995, in order to coincide with the re-location of the Brigade

of Gurkhas infrastructure to UK. HQ UKLF should shadow the HQBG/BGN

BLB for the previous financial year. The composition of BGN is

unlikely to change significantly as a result of the change in command

status.

HELICOPTER FORCE LEVELS

Helicopter force levels have been subject to recent reviews, as

required by the 1991 plan. Both the Wessex and the Scout studies
