mmunition, war maintenance reserves (WMR), and defence stores

held in Theatre are currently under review and are likely to be

substantially reduced, with resultant reductions in supporting

infrastructure.

A compensatory increase in the scales included in JTP

30 would ensure that sufficient equipment would be provided to support

operations in a crisis situation.

15. The HQBF Manpower, Supporting Arms and Services Paper3 contains

full details of all proposed reductions in supporting Arms and

Services. Broadly speaking, it is intended that reductions will be

achieved in line with the withdrawals of infantry battalions and the

ending of accompanied service. The principal conclusions of the Paper

are:

a. RN and RAF.

Assuming that the HKG wish, as agreed by HMG3

for 3 RN patrol craft to remain in-theatre to 1997 is to be met,

any reduction in the RN presence would affect the ability of BFHK

to maintain this capability. There is, therefore, little scope

for RN reductions. Similarly, the strength of RAF Sek Kong can

only be reduced marginally before 1997, given a

operational requirement to retain a force of 6 AE and 2 IUR Wessex.
