REVIEW OF OUT OF AREA DEFENCE COMMITMENTS

1. Towards the end of last year separate consideration was being given to MOD proposals for cuts in the defence cover provided for Belize and South Georgia and the Falklands. There were indications that other proposals for out of area cuts might be in the pipeline in the MOD. Rather than consider the MOD proposals piecemeal, the Private Secretary said that he thought the Secretary of State would prefer to look at the MOD's proposals as a package.
