In the event of civil disturbances, it is of utmost importance that the media and the public be kept fully and accurately informed of the situation in order to :

(a) maintain

During the period leading up emergency, DIS will reinforce News Room staff as necessary to ensure that an efficient 24-hour service to the news media is maintained and to pass on important messages to various government departments, corporations and companies.

When it becomes necessary, DIS will order the Combined Information Centre (CIC) to be manned on a full-time basis. The CIC will then become the central point for receiving information on all matters relating to the emergency and it will use all channels available to it to gather information. The CIC will also be the main agency for disseminating information as directed by

the Information Policy Committee (IPC).
