SECTION 3

SHIPPING AND PORT OPERATIONS

INTRODUCTION

The Marine Department Port Operations will liaise between Government and shipping interests and provide advice to the latter on all matters affecting shipping and cargoes, bunkering and provisioning.

GENERAL

In a civil emergency the direction of ships and the discharging of cargoes will proceed as described in Section 2.

DUTIES

The Port Operations will be responsible for keeping all interests informed of the situation regarding shipping and cargoes. Those primarily interested will be the GSECC and the Director of Agriculture and Fisheries (who will be responsible for the distribution of food).

ADMINISTRATION

4.

The Port Operations will be headed by the Principal Marine Officer (Vessel Traffic Services) and he will be assisted by the Senior Marine Officer (Vessel Traffic Centre) and other members of the Port Services Division.
