Communications

In the event of a breakdown of the Hong Kong Telephone Co.'s lines, alternative methods of communication are available between the Airport and the rest of Hong Kong. These are :

(a)

(b)

(c)

direct line telephones (Military and Telephone Co. private wires);

radio links to Radio/Radar outstations;

GSECC Radio Telephone Network (linking the Airport with the Civil Control Centre and other Government

Departments);

(d) VHF Radio Network for weather reporting;

(e)

VHF Radio Network for fire and rescue; and

(f)

Airlines' Line Teleprinter Circuits

(linking the Airport with airline offices on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon).

Maintenance of Radio, Radar and Visual Aids

36.

Hong Kong Telecom International Ltd will attempt to maintain all radio and radar equipment. They will also, in liaison with the Oil Companies Tank Farm, arrange for the provision of a reserve of fuel (including diesel) and lubricating oil at the remote sites.

37.

Visual aids to navigation, approach-to-land systems, runway and airfield lightings and other electrical installations essential to airport operations will continue to be maintained, as far as possible, by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.

38.

Standby power supplies are available for approach and runway lighting and at all vital radio and radar installations.
