Live cattle, China by rail, road and sea. imported for slaughter in Hong Kong in order to supply the "hot-meat" trade. Slaughtering is done either at

one of the four private licensed slaughterhouses at Kennedy Town, Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long and Cheung Chau (serving Cheung Chau and nearby islands only), or at the Urban Council's Cheung Sha Wan Abattoir.

Buyers representing retailers purchase live animals from importers/wholesale-dealers. Transactions for cattle are carried out in the Ma Tau Kok Cattle Depot or in the marketing lairages of Kennedy Town Abattoir. Transactions for pigs and goats are carried out in the lairages of Kennedy Town and Cheung Sha Wan Abattoirs and Tsuen Wan Slaughterhouse.

In addition to imported animals, some local livestock (mainly pigs) are also slaughtered in the abattoirs and slaughterhouses.
