Despite the provision for remanding accused in custody for up to 14 days, without trial or appearance before a magistrate, it is desirable that they should be brought before a magistrate as quickly as possible.

Persons arrested as curfew breakers or for any other emergency offence, will be held in custody under arrangements made by the Police (see Chapter 5, Part II B). These cases may be dealt with during curfew, under paragraph 7.
