The Hong Kong and China Gas Co. is responsible for the production and supply of towngas within the territory. As in the case of electricity, maintenance of supply would be important during a
of civil unrest,
some important organisations (e.g. hospitals) depend on gas for cooking and heating.

as
Gas production facilities would be guarded if trouble seemed likely to occur, as the production process can be sabotaged quite easily by people with the requisite technical knowledge. If gas production was reduced, it would be possible to cut supplies to non-essential areas in order to maintain the supply to hospitals, essential canteens and important Government and civil installations.
16.
Some parts of the gas distribution network are vulnerable to sabotage, particularly the pressure regulating installations and pigging stations which regulate the pressure of gas in local mains.

Most areas can be supplied from more than pressure regulating installation,
SO that re-supply could be effected quite quickly provided Company staff were able to reach the location concerned.
FUELS, OILS AND LUBRICANTS
18.
All kerosene, qas oil and diesel oil is imported, much of it from China through the Chinese national trading companies. In the event that these companies were unable or unwilling to continue with supplies, there would be a considerable shortfall until alternative sources of supply could be tapped.
