the Security Forces and essential workers in both the public and private sectors are supplied with rations.

The Government's policy is to achieve these objectives by supplementing the efforts of the private sector through the provision of protection for food premises and additional labour and transport if necessary.

The Director of Agriculture and Fisheries will assume overall control of food acquisition, storage and distribution, and will be responsible for advising the Government on any additional measures which might need to be taken.

The particular responsibilities of the Director-General of Trade, Director of Urban Services, Director of Regional Services and the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, are described further on in this Part. The Food Unit, with DAF as
Controller, will co-ordinate the action.
ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
9.
The Director
of Architectural Services will be responsible for ensuring that essential repairs are carried out to Government buildings and other installations. Normal maintenance services may have to be curtailed if there are problems with contract labour.

Requests
for
assistance
from
the
Architectural Services Department should be passed through normal channels, or failing this, to the Joint Emergency Public Works Co-ordinating Committee
(see Part II paragraph 14).
