1. Below are partial replies to the five questions asked by Ms Ackerman. You will understand that, as all these issues are extremely sensitive, we are unable to provide anything more than the standard public line.
2.
On questions (i) and (ii): the issue of military sites in Hong Kong is under discussion with the Chinese in the Joint Liaison Group. As yet no agreement has been reached.
3. On question (iii): the naval base facilities of HMS Tamar will be moving to Stonecutters' Island, but have not yet done
So.
4. On question (iv): our plans for the reduction of the Hong Kong garrison are currently under review.
5. On question (v): we postponed Exercise Winged Dragon, a command post exercise which was due to take place last November. The exercise will be rescheduled for a later date. It is for the Chinese to comment on their own military exercises.
