equipment and munitions against destruction or theft by hostile

individuals or organisations. While the terrorist threat on the mainland

remains high, the security of Ministry of Defence establishments and

personnel remains a primary concern, and we are constantly reviewing

our security measures to see if they can be improved.

328. The Ministry of Defence Guard Service, formed on 1 October 1992, rationalises several existing categories of guarding and patrolling

personnel to form a unified guard service, with common professional

standards, pay and conditions of service and grading structure. From

March 1993, all training was centralised at the Ministry of Defence Police

Training School's new location at Wethersfield in Essex. The

headquarters of the Ministry of Defence Police is planned to move from

London to the same site in 1994.

329. The protection of nuclear weapons, materials and facilities are

covered by Military Tasks 1.1 and 2.1.

Military Task 1.13: Provision of HMY Britannia and The Queen's Flight

330. The Government provides secure maritime and air travel, as

required, for the Sovereign. This includes HMY Britannia, with a

destroyer or frigate escort when senior members of the Royal family are

embarked, the Queen's Flight (TQF) (comprising three BAe 146 aircraft,

and 2 Wessex helicopters), and search and rescue coverage for flights by selected members of the Royal Family. Such coverage is provided by existing 'on call' SAR assets. In peacetime, TQF provides Her Majesty, and

others with her approval, with the safest, most secure and best maintained

means of air travel available. In wartime, TQF aircraft would undertake
