Order 1986

The Hong Kong (British Nationality) provides that British Dependent Territories citizens by virtue of a connection with Hong Kong, such as by birth, registration or naturalisation in Hong Kong, will cease such citizens on 1 July 1997. Those who wish to continue to travel on British passports beyond 1997 must apply for a British National (Overseas) (BN (O)) passport on or before the relevant dates as specified in the Second Schedule to that Order.

To save time, eligible applicants including Civil Servants, may send their applications for BN (0) passports by post to the Immigration Department or deposit their applications in the drop-in boxes installed at any one of the Immigration Offices throughout the territory. Application forms can be obtained at all Immigration Offices and District Offices.
