If you do not meet the residence requirements, but you believe there are special circumstances in your case, you should write to the Naturalisation and Nationality Section, Immigration Department, 2nd Floor, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong to check whether it is worth making an application. You must explain what the special circumstances are,
Crown service
This means service overseas, working directly for the Government of Hong Kong-
No fixed period of service is set, as naturalisation will not be granted just on the completion of a period of satisfactory service.
If you are applying on the grounds of Crown service you must show that you--

are serving overseas in Crown service on the date that your application is received;
have been the holder of a responsible post overseas; and have given outstanding service; and
have some close connection with Hong Kong.

MARRIAGE TO A BRITISH DEPENDENT TERRITORIES CITIZEN
These separate requirements apply if you are manied to a British Dep endent Territories citizen. The Governor may, if he thinks fit, naturalise a person who meets all these requirements. You may apply if you:

are aged 18 or over and are not of unsound mind
are of good character
are married to a British Dependent Termories citizen on the date of application
either meet the "3 years residence' requirement (which are explain ed below)
or are married to a British Dependent Territories citizen wha
↑ on the date your application is received is working overseas either in
Crown service, or in service specially designated under section 1 6(3) of the British Nationality Act 1981, and
↑ was recruited in Hong Kong to that service.
and your stay in Hang Kung is not subject to any time limit under the imanigration laws on the date your application is received in the Immigration Department
Note: Crown service is explained on page 4.
The "3 years residence' requirements
The 3 year period is the period ending with the date your applicatican is received in the Immigration Department
Example: If your application is received in the Immigration Depart ment on 31 March 1983, the 3 year period will be from 1 April 1980 to 31 March 1983.
You will meet the “3 years residence” requirements if
•
you were in Hong Kong at the beginning of the 3 year period; and
on the date your application is received in the Immigration Department
your stay in Hong Kong is not subject to any time limit under the immigration laws; and
in the 3 year period you were not outside Hang Kong for more than 270 days; and
in the last 12 months of the 3 year period you were not outside Hang Kong for more than 90 days; and
you were not at any time in the 3 year period in Hong Kang in breach of the immigration laws.
