For elections made within the 6-month period under paragraph 5(a) above, the effective date of leaving the SSCPS or WOPS will be 1 February 1993. Any contributions collected in the interim will be returned without interest.

leaving the SSCPS or WOPS under the circumstances set out in paragraph 5(b) or (c), the effective date of leaving the respective scheme will be the date of the member's divorce, death of the spouse, or when the member's last child ceases to be pensionable (for WOPS only). Calculation of Arrears in Buying Back Past Contributory Service under the SSCPS

With the introduction of voluntary membership under the SSCPS, some categories of officers who first join or re-join the scheme after 1 February 1993 because of a change in their terms of appointment or marital status, and who were in service immediately before this change may opt to buy back past contributory service to the scheme, but in no case beyond 1 January 1978. These categories are

(c)

(d)

an agreement officer who has bought back pensionable service upon transfer to the permanent establishment;

an officer who does not join the SSCPS as soon as he becomes eligible but who opts to join the scheme within 6 months after marriage or re-marriage;

members of the SSCPS or WOPS who have opted out of the respective scheme and who elect to rejoin the SSCPS within 6 months after marriage or re-marriage; and

all Model Scale I staff, Staff of Artisan / Senior Artisan grades, female officers and certain junior disciplined services officers who first elect to join the SSCPS during the initial 6-month election period.
