Would you please refer to Mr Hague's minute of 13 November and our subsequent telephone conversations about the disposal of the Hong Kong Immigration Department's UK-related archives.

As far as records of interest to NTCD are concerned, our views on disposal are set out below in the same order as listed in Mrs Tong's letter of 31 October:

All these records should be transferred to Records Branch, FCO.
These records should be transferred to the Consulate-General.
Records from 1.7.85 should be transferred to the Consulate-General. Records prior to 1.7.85 should be destroyed.
Records of other BDTC passports issued after 1.7.85 should be transferred to the Consulate-General. The other passport records referred to should be destroyed.
Records from 1.1.83 should be transferred to the Consulate-General. Records prior to 1.1.83 should be destroyed.
Passport warning lists should be transferred to the Consulate-General as proposed.
In general files on passport policy matters should be transferred to the Consulate-General for retention, transfer to the FCO or local destruction when and as appropriate. Some indication of the quantity of such files would be useful.
