As I also mentioned, thanks to the air-conditioned environment of the Albany (opening windows lets in noise and the pollution of Central) I have suffered from catarrh ever since I arrived and a sore throat for 5 weeks that kept me at home for 3 days and even occasioned 24 hours in hospital - a unique experience for me.
The Albany flat has developed strange coin-sized blisters in most rooms, with pieces of plaster falling off and unsightly bubbling under wall-paper. No-one has yet determined why but it appears to be a
to be a fault in the plastering which will require possibly repeated redecoration.
I am convinced we have a golden opportunity to move to accommodation that is better for the job and healthier for myself and my wife. I very much hope, therefore, that we can resolve any questions soon and open negotiations by the end of the week, permitting Peter Ricketts to chance to see for himself before a decision is taken. (Mr Whittle has now left Hong Kong)
