Dear

Peter,

CHANGE OF BTC RESIDENCE

John Morris has asked me to let you know the latest on our plans for taking forward the question of a move to Repulse Bay for Mr Day. John has spoken to Mark Bertram. OED will submit to the Chief Clerk to seek agreement on the principle of a move. They will submit on the basis of Stephen Day's assumptions and will put forward some rough costings without at this stage sending anyone from OED to visit. Such a visit will come only when (and if) the submission is approved. Christopher Hum is aware that an OED visit will not take place in the immediate future.

The submission will include input from ourselves and from MWU. OED will expect the Department to make a judgement on the appropriateness of the proposed property from a

representational point of view. We therefore wonder, with many apologies, whether you could after all find time to take a look at the property? We are sorry to bother you with this, but it would be helpful, in the absince of any OED visitor, to have your view on that point.

John is writing briefly to Stephen Day, to tell him that the case for a move is being carefully considered and that the first step is for OED to establish agreement for a move in principle, subject to the right legal and financial package being negotiated in due course. He has already told Mr Day on the telephone that it will not be possible to meet the 17 December deadline (apparently there is more flexibility in this than was at first evident.) He has asked whether Mr Day could get hold of floor plans for the Repulse Bay property. These would be helpful for OED. Yours ever

Debbie.
