DRAFT LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY OF STATE
To: Sir Teddy Taylor MP
House of Commons
London SW1A OAA
Thank you for your letter and enclosure of 21 May about the Lorrain Osman case.
Mr Osman's lengthy remand in the UK flows from the very extensive use he has chosen to make of the appeals procedure. To date, seven applications for a writ of habeas corpus have been heard and rejected by the courts. has now petitioned the House of Lords against the judgment in the latest habeas corpus application earlier this year.
Mr Osman
Mr Cahill has written repeatedly to Ministers and officials in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Home Office. We have always made clear that the allegations he has made are a matter for the courts.
For your own information, the Osman case was not discussed during the recent call on the Prime Minister by the Malaysian Prime Minister, as Mr Cahill suggests.
I am returning Mr Cahill's letter, a copy of which has been retained for our files.
