We have consulted Paris (telcon Barnes Jones/Macgregor). They do not anticipate any adverse reaction by the French authorities to this story alone. But any questions in Hong Kong about the Saniman case will need careful handling - we do not want to attract undue attention through over dramatisation of the Latest Legal moves.

If the story were to run in a big way in France, we would of course have to reassess the situation. In the worst case, coverage could concentrate on the unprecedented nature of the action taken to pursue Saniman's extradition from France. This would not help our case with the French authorities, as you will be aware we have tried to keep the public profile demonstrably Low key. But we do not see why the story should take off in that
way.
