The formal proof of those assertions is contained in the cables which were granted the above PIIC, and especially in the cable of 20th Dec. 1985.
The cables further disclose the extent of the involvement in the affair of Warwick Reid, former acting Director of Public Prosecutions in Hong Kong, now serving 8 years in jail for corruption in his function as DPP.
The cables link directly to the Chooi Minute of 17.1.85, in which the Financial Secretary of Hong Kong, in the company of the Attorney General of Hong Kong, offered to bend the law in order to assist the cover up of Malaysian Government involvement in the collapse of Carrian.
The final link in this chain of irregularity takes us back to Reid and the Crown's disgraced principle witness Jaafar. Jaafar has been branded a liar and unbelievable by the
High Court of Hong Kong. He was granted unprecedented criminal immunities by Reid, who also helped persuade the Malaysian Government to do the same on the civil front. Jaafar's
perjuries before the High Court of Hong Kong were in violation
of his immunities, which contrary to the common public policy of Hong Kong in such cases, were not withdrawn.
The Government of Hong Kong caused a perjured statement
(Adkins June 1990. P 11) to be placed before the UK High Court, saying that no such arrangement as that disclosed in
the Chooi minute had been entered into. (More)
