EXTRADITION CASES
1. Thank you for your letter of 30 October. We had spotted the same "non-linkage" with our extradition cases pending over Akbar and Saniman; the relevant departments are fully aware of the need to be as co-operative as possible with the French over their request to extradite Majid Saili.

Unfortunately, the latest news is not promising. The application may well be refused; apparently under English law there is insufficient proof of Saili's complicity in Bahktiar's murder. enclose an explanatory note by the Crown Prosecution Service.) The Director of Public Prosecutions has given contingency briefing to the Attorney-General, and will be providing advice to the French Ministry of Justice in due course. It will then be for the French authorities to see if more evidence can be mustered.

The Attorney General has been asked to raise the Saniman case briefly with the French next week, although this will be secondary to the request for co-operation in connection with Akbar. In case you have not seen it, I enclose a copy of the information provided to the Attorney-General by Mr Theodore Goddard in Paris.
