P.2/9

My Dear Minister,

I have the honour to refer to recent discussions between representatives of the Government of the Argentine Republic and the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland concerning visa-free access for travel to Hong Kong by Argentine passport holders and for travel to Argentina by Hong Kong British Dependent Territories Citizen passport holders and by British National (Overseas) passport holders (hereafter called "British Hong Kong passport holders"), and to state that the understanding of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is as follows:-

(1)

(2)

(3)

(4)

Argentine passport holders will be permitted to visit Hong Kong without visas for a period not exceeding (1) month, excluding the date of landing.

one

Holders of British Hong Kong passports of a type described in the Annex to this Note will be permitted to visit Argentina without visas for a period not exceeding one (1) month on a reciprocal basis and under arrangements identical to those described in (1) above.

It is understood that the exemption from the visa requirement will not exempt Argentine passport holders who travel to Hong Kong, nor British passport holders who travel to the Argentine Republic from the obligation to comply with the respective laws and regulations on the entry and residence of foreigners and on carrying out lucrative activities, whether on a self-employed or salaried basis. Travellers who, according to the immigration authorities, do not satisfy the fulfilment of the said laws and regulations may be refused permission to enter, disembark or remain in the respective territories.

The Government of the United Kingdom or the Government of the Argentine Republic may temporarily suspend the former provisions, in total or in part. In such a case, the other Government will immediately be informed of suspension by diplomatic channels.
