which is of acute concern to a small and well defined group of families. Their existing treatment is widely seen to be at odds with the key objective of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1990 that is, to anchor Hong Kong people in Hong Kong. I very much hope that a decision can be taken quickly to satisfy this group of people, which can be done without creating difficult precedents either in Hong Kong or elsewhere in the world.
It would be very timely if I was to be in a position to confirm our agreement during my visit to Hong Kong (25-28 May).
