Thank you for your letter of 7 August enclosing one from Sir Brian Tovey of Cresswell Associates Ltd, 8 Cresswell Gardens, SW5 about the future of some children resident in Hong Kong who have no automatic right to British citizenship although their parents hold this citizenship.
I am also concerned about the situation of these families in Hong Kong and have been in correspondence with the Home Office about them. During the Secretary of State's last visit to Hong Kong at the end of July he was able to announce that the Home Secretary would be looking at these cases generously and speedily as they came before him. We shall continue to keep the subject under review.

Yours sirenly
