VISIT BY SIR J COLES TO NEW DELHI, 4-6 NOVEMBER 1992

I attach a call for briefing for the visit by Sir John Coles to New Delhi on 4-6 November. This is the first of what is intended to be a regular broader dialogue with the Indians at senior official level, which was initiated by the Secretary of State during his visit to New Delhi in January.
2.
The main talks will be with Mr Srinivasan, Secretary West in the Indian MEA. He is also likely to call on the Indian Foreign Secretary (PUS equivalent) and Indian Defence Secretary (PUS equivalent).
3.
The briefing requirements reflect the agreed agenda (attached). Sir John Coles has specifically asked for a full brief on those subjects which he does not deal with on a day to day basis. He only requires a checklist of points to make and essential off-the-shelf background for other subjects with which he is familiar.
