The success rate of this category is very low. As the list was drawn up in 1990, there are problems in obtaining sufficient information on the personal particulars of the candidates. Of the 297 names on the list, there is insufficient information on 134 of them for following, up, and about 1/3 of them either do not meet the BDTC requirement or hold "good quality" passports. Only 6 candidates have been invited to apply, and 20 candidates have been asked to provide more information. A summary of the latest position is at Annex B.

Un-invited EC Applicants

The processing of the 222 applications received during the application period has reached an advanced stage. One more candidate has been accepted under the EC bringing the total number of invitees to 42. No more suitable candidates can be expected from this source, as applications outside the application period have to be submitted in response to the Governor's invitation. Unsuccessful GOC Applicants

Director of Immigration has identified 65 unsuccessful GOC applicants who may have the potential to qualify under the EC. Personality checks on them have been completed. Candidates are being approached for information on their investments in order to assess their eligibility under the EC. So far, 9 candidates have been invited under this category.
