Referrals and self-nominated candidates
Some 25 names have either been referred to us from outside sources or have been put forward by candidates of their own accord. The Governor has approved inviting 11 of them who meet the selection criteria under the EC.
Uninvited EC applicants
As explained in Paper 25/92 [revised], the EC Task Group considers 16 of the 222 applications received in this category satisfy the existing investment guidelines. Subject to members' advice, the Governor's approval will be sought to process them under the EC after confirmation that there are no character objections against them.
So far, a total of 121 places of the quota of 500 have been committed.
New candidates

After the last Steering
Committee meeting, policy secretaries and relevant department heads have been approached for new nominations. Based on the information received, the EC Task Group has drawn up a further list of 104 new nominees. In addition, it has established the following sources from which additional candidates may be identified:
a)
majority shareholders of large listed companies;
b)
partners of major professional firms, such as legal and accounting firms;
c)
chairmen of major securities brokerage firms; and
