2. Scope of the title. This title deals with the law concerning (1) companies regulated by the Companies Act 1985 and subsequent legislation1; (2) companies regulated by the Companies Clauses Acts2; (3) unregistered companies so far as they are affected by the provisions of the Companies Act 19853; (4) companies formed under the Chartered Companies Act 18374; and (5) companies formed outside England and Wales5.

3. Arrangement of the title. Companies incorporated by registration under the Companies Act 1985 are governed by the provisions of that Act and subsequent legislation1; and so also are the companies which were incorporated by registration under the earlier Companies Acts, namely the Joint Stock Companies Acts2, the Companies Act 1862, the Companics (Consolidation) Act 1908, the Companies Act 1929 and the Companies Acts 1948 to 19833. Part 2 of this title deals with companies regulated by the Companies Act 19854.
The provisions of the Companies Clauses Acts apply to companies incorpor- ated by a special Act of Parliament; and Part 3 of this title covers companies regulated by those Acts".
Certain of the provisions of the Companies Act 1985 apply to companies which are not in general regulated by either of the foregoing codes; these provisions are dealt with in Part 47.
Companies formed under the Chartered Companies Act 1837, although not incorporated, have some of the attributes of corporate bodies; they are dealt with in Part 58.
Part 6 deals with companies formed in Scotland, Northern Ireland, in parts of the Commonwealth and in foreign countries9.
