Some 66,511 Hong Kong residents have applied to date for British citizenship in the first phase of the British Nationality Scheme under the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1990. About 39,418 of ther are expected to be successful in their application.

Present indications are that the principal beneficiaries each have 2 dependants on average (the average family size of the successful applicants is thu about 3).
