Dear J. Leong,

r

At the meeting with OMELCO during my last visit to Hong Kong, you referred to rumours that British passports granted under the British Nationality Scheme were being treated as second class passports. I undertook to look into this and to let you

know the result.

We have now studied the press article which reported the rumour, and have consulted the Home Office. The Home Office have not received any reports from their team in Hong Kong that these passports were being treated any differently from other British passports. As the press report makes clear there is only one type of British passport irrespective of how it was obtained and it is therefore not possible to identify those passports issued under the British Nationality Scheme.
