Dear Mr L
Leung.
CORRESPONDENCE WITH LORD GEDDES
1.
I enclose a copy of a letter dated 10 June which Lord Geddes has sent to Mr Goodlad.
2.
We are a little puzzled by this letter and in particular by the reference he makes to the one which you wrote to him on 1 June saying that after consulting the FCO you were unable to provide him with the agreements in connection with the introduction of the BNO passports. We have been unable to find anything on our files about this nor can anyone remember discussing it with you. Can you throw some light on this? Also I am not exactly sure what it is that Lord Geddes is after. If it is just confirmation that the Chinese authorities will recognize BNO status as the successor to BDTC status then I would have thought that this was adequately covered by JD 226 and 234. But perhaps he just wants to know whether there has been any further agreements with the Chinese which specifically mention BNO status.
I should be grateful therefore for any advice which you can give to enable us to reply to Lord Geddes.
3.
If possible could we please have your reply by close of play on 17 June.
Yours sincerely,
&
Wooder
