been no rush for passports, as was the case with HKBDTC and BN (0) passports introduced in January 1983 and July 1987 respectively. The new format passport is expected to be generally accepted by the local community.

A press release will be issued. It will emphasize that the machine-readable feature of the CFP will enable the holder to take advantage of international developments in the use of passport-reading equipment as a means of reducing delays at immigration controls, and that Hong Kong will issue the "jumbo" CFP when HMG issues theirs.
